The First Ancient Warfare-Themed Musical Fountain Project Dazzles Audiences at Shuangqing Bay in Fuyang
Bringing a historical war epic to the silver screen is nothing new, but staging a historical war drama on water using light and sound technology to fully present a chapter of the Southern Song Dynasty's resistance against the Jin invaders is a first in China. Recently, the Shuangqing Bay Water Show Theater in Fuyang, Anhui—once hailed by netizens as "China's most beautiful urban musical fountain"—officially premiered the water show drama The Battle of Shunchang, reenacting the Southern Song Dynasty's great victory against the Jin. Footage of the live performance has gone viral on social media platforms like WeChat Moments and Douyin!
According to the construction team behind Shuangqing Bay's musical fountain, to meet the public's demand for ever-fresh musical fountain experiences, their new design philosophy centers on "one high-tech hardware system supporting multiple spectacular shows." New programs premiere annually, with this year's latest releases including the ancient war water show epic "The Battle of Shunchang" and "Fantasy."
The Battle of Shunchang was a pivotal engagement in the Southern Song Dynasty's resistance against the Jin. Shunchang corresponds to present-day Fuyang. In this epic water show, General Liu Qi, undaunted by peril, leads soldiers and civilians alike into battle against the Jin forces, ultimately securing victory. The entire narrative unfolds with breathtaking intensity through 5D technology, defying concise description. Let a verse capture its essence: "Shunchang's bronze walls guarded the north, Brave sons in golden helmets and silver armor; Silver steeds shattered enemy shields, Golden spears' gleaming blades swept foes away; Cannons roar in unison, shattering enemy ranks; Arrows rain from the heavens, striking terror in foes' hearts; Do not mock the Jin army's fear— For here in Shunchang stands the renowned General Liu Qi!"

Throughout the entire production, the unique integration of sound, light, water, fire, and electricity vividly recreates the breathtaking spectacle of the clash between the two armies at the Battle of Shunchang.
Beyond the blockbuster-scale ancient warfare water show "The Battle of Shunchang," the musical fountain complex features twenty themed water performances. These include historical figures like Ouyang Xiu, variety-inspired shows like Swan Lake on Water, and Frozen on Water. Audience members unanimously praised the unparalleled effects, hailing it as a truly "technologically advanced, creatively inspired, and content-rich" musical fountain. They marveled at how a place like Fuyang, Anhui, could foster such innovative spirit and host such an exceptional musical fountain—a water performance center that defies expectations.

Yan Hao, director of Waterdesign Scenery Water Show, stated that the project's hidden holographic large-screen display, seamlessly integrated with fountains and lighting, represents a world-first innovation. Additionally, the water show features a diverse repertoire of meticulously crafted performances, each produced to cinematic standards, ensuring audiences discover something new with every viewing.
